The DALI PHANTOM E-60 S stereo speaker builds on the heritage of the highly acclaimed DALI PHANTOM E-60 in-ceiling speaker - featuring two 20 mm soft dome textile tweeters.
With a distance of 144 mm between the tweeters, you will experience a wider-than-average perspective from this true stereo speaker. The signal path is a dual mono construction with separate inputs and crossover PCB's for each channel. Two switches ensure that both channels can be tuned for the acoustics of your listening room, resulting in fantastic integration and a high level of details.
Typical use will be for stereo in small to medium-sized rooms. It is also possible to apply the PHANTOM E-60 S as height speaker(s) in a multi-channel setup.
The E-60 S is designed for optimum in-ceiling use, but will also work if mounted in-wall. It is all about true hi-fi sound, versatility, and flexibility. The compact construction and the easy-to-use compass positioning guide makes it very straight forward to adjust the speaker for the optimum sound experience. Two discreet switches offer audio adjustment options to ensure that the listener gets the most from the speakers, even in rooms that traditionally are difficult.
The tilted woofer and the two off-centre soft dome tweeters blend gracefully and produce a richly detailed and crisp soundstage. The polypropylene cone is more resilient towards humidity than the traditional DALI wood fibre cone material, making the PHANTOM E-60 S flexible in regards to placement in covered outdoor areas and bathrooms.
DESIGN
The PHANTOM E-60 S introduces improvements to the basic design of the front baffle by adding extra thickness to the outer edges for a tighter and more secure fit against the mounting area. This also helps the overall strength and rigidity of the speaker.
The dogleg mounting system makes the install process an easy one-step action. Simply insert the PHANTOM E-60 S in the prepared mounting area, and from the front of the speaker tighten the dedicated screws to swing out the dogleg brackets and tighten them against the back of the mounting surface. If the mounting surface is extra thick, reversing the dogleg makes it possible to expand the mounting grip to 70mm.
The updated front grille design features small perforation and curved edges in order to blend in seamlessly with any surroundings. The grill is also paintable to match any décor. A true chameleon within speakers.
CROSSOVER
The signal path is a dual mono construction with separate inputs and crossover PCB's for each channel. The separate crossover boards and channel-specific adjustment possibilities ensure discrete left and right signals all the way from input to drivers.
Every component in the crossover is carefully selected for their audiophile quality and the crossover in the PHANTOM E-60 S is designed especially for this model.
The PHANTOM E-60 S includes PTC (Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient device) safety function. This safeguards the driver components from overheating if played at very loud volumes over a long period. Install speakers are often played to fill more than just the room they are mounted in, so If the listener is in another room the volume can accidentally be turned up to extremely high levels, and therefore permanently damage the speakers. The PTC system will prevent this for happening, since it acts like a fuse if the current get to high.
All internal wiring is optimized for the speaker design and is placed and secured to eliminate the possibility of rattling. The terminals are placed directly on the crossover for the shortest possible signal path, and the spring loaded grip ensures the best possible long lasting connection to the speaker wire.
TWEETER
The two 20 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeters coupled with the well known PHANTOM E polypropylene woofer – here equipped with a dual voice coil - ensure a compact, yet high quality, two-way, two-channel performance.
Separate crossover boards and channel-specific adjustment possibilities ensure discrete left and right signals all the way from inputs to drivers. And with a 144 mm distance between the tweeters, DALI engineers have done everything possible to optimize stereo performance.
The compass rose on the outer edge help direct the speaker for optimum sound stage.
WOOFER
Flexibility was important when designing the PHANTOM E-60 S, and the ability to use the speaker in areas not fit for traditional DALI speakers was a large part of this. To ensure the best balance between durability and great audio reproduction polypropylene was chosen for the cone material.
The woofer is tilted and angled for improved directionality and sound staging. The cone, surround and magnet motor system is designed according to the DALI low-loss principles. This makes the PHANTOM E-60 S an easy speaker to drive, and even smaller amplifiers will be able to deliver a high quality audio experience with the PHANTOM E-60 S.
BACK BOX
The PHANTOM E-60 S can also be combined with the optional, well-known DALI backbox, which protects the speaker against moisture, dust and dirt. It keeps the sound quality consistent (symmetrical loading), even if the acoustic environment behind the walls/ceiling is uneven. With the backbox, you avoid rear sound radiation, reducing acoustic leakage from room to room and from floor to floor. The DALI backbox is not included with the PHANTOM E-60 S, but can be chosen as an optional accessory.
